Employees of Goldman Sachs were left in shock after the Wall Street giant abruptly laid off more than 3000 of its staff on Wednesday. Not only were these employees not warned of the imminent job losses but some were even invited to meetings under false pretenses in order to deliver the heartbreaking news.
Insiders have revealed that Goldman Sachs sent calendar invites to targeted employees for phony business meetings at its New York headquarters. Some of these employees were even asked to arrive as early as 7:30 a.m. only to be informed that they were being let go.
One source described the scene of a colleague who was fired. “He got here early for the meeting and was told the news,” the source said. “Meeting was put on his calendar under false pretenses.”
Another employee was asked to arrive at 7:30 a.m. for a call with Goldman counterparts in the Asia-Pacific region and, unsure of what was to come, did not question the early hour.
