The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati, concluded the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Advanced 2023 on June 4. The OMR response sheet and the final answer key will soon be released on the official JEE Advanced website, jeeadv.ac.in.
The exam consisted of two papers, paper 1 and paper 2, which were conducted over a period of three hours. The papers included questions from physics, chemistry, and mathematics. According to the analysis of the exam, paper 1 was rated moderate to tough in terms of difficulty, with mathematics being considered the toughest section.
Students found the mathematics section to be unbalanced and tricky. It included questions from various topics such as functions, differential equations, inverse trigonometric functions, differentiability, vectors, 3D geometry, application of derivatives, complex numbers, matrices, circle permutation and combination, and probability. Many students felt that this section was the most challenging.
In physics, more weightage was given to chapters such as wave and sound, wave optics, fluids, EM waves, thermodynamics, modern physics, current electricity, kinematics, gravitation, and electrostatics. Students considered the physics section to be moderate in difficulty. However, some questions in this section involved tricky and lengthy calculations, making it slightly imbalanced.
In chemistry, students found the section to be tricky. Organic and physical chemistry were given more weightage compared to inorganic chemistry. Some inorganic chemistry questions were directly from the NCERT textbook. The physical chemistry questions covered topics such as chemical kinetics, ionic and chemical equilibrium, electrochemistry, and thermodynamics. In organic chemistry, the questions mostly focused on aryl and alkyl halides, amines, polymers, biomolecules, and oxygen-containing compounds. The section included mixed-concept questions and was reported to be moderate in difficulty by students.
The marking scheme for paper 2, section 1, involved four questions with four options, out of which only one option was correct. Three marks were awarded for the correct answer, while not choosing any option resulted in zero marks.
Paper 2 was divided into three parts: physics, chemistry, and mathematics, each carrying 60 marks. Each part had four sections. Paper 1, on the other hand, consisted of 51 questions, with 17 questions in each subject, namely physics, chemistry, and mathematics. The total marks for paper 1 were 180.
Candidates will soon be able to access their OMR response sheets and the final answer key on the official JEE Advanced 2023 website starting from June 9.
Overall, the JEE Advanced 2023 exam was challenging for the students, with mathematics being considered the toughest section. Physics and chemistry had their own challenges, including tricky questions and lengthy calculations. Candidates are advised to visit the official JEE Advanced website for all the relevant and official information regarding the exam.
