Former Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Sachin Pilot, has criticized Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot for his recent statement praising his predecessor, Vasundhara Raje, for helping him save his government from rebel Congress MLAs in 2020. Pilot expressed his disbelief at a chief minister criticizing his own party members while commending political rivals, stating that it was beyond his comprehension.

The political landscape in Rajasthan has been tumultuous over the past few years, marked by internal power struggles within the Congress party. In 2020, Ashok Gehlot faced a major crisis when Sachin Pilot, along with a group of rebel MLAs, openly revolted against his leadership. The rebel MLAs sought to topple the Gehlot-led government, leading to a high-stakes political drama.

However, Gehlot managed to save his government by using his political acumen and the support of party leaders, including some from Vasundhara Raje’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). It was this aspect of Gehlot’s successful defense against the rebellion that he recently highlighted and praised Raje for her assistance during those challenging times.

Pilot, who was once a key member of the Gehlot government and the Congress party, expressed his astonishment at the chief minister’s statement. He criticized Gehlot for openly criticizing and questioning the loyalty of his own party members while simultaneously praising leaders from the BJP. Pilot emphasized that such behavior was “absolutely wrong” and raised doubts about Gehlot’s commitment and loyalty to the Congress party.

The remarks made by Sachin Pilot reflect the ongoing tensions within the Rajasthan Congress. Pilot himself had led a rebellion against Gehlot’s leadership in 2020, which resulted in his removal from key party positions. The crisis was eventually resolved after the intervention of the Congress high command, with Pilot being reinstated and offered a truce.

However, the recent comments from Pilot suggest that the wounds from the past have not completely healed. The underlying tensions and mistrust within the Rajasthan Congress continue to simmer, with Pilot questioning the motives and actions of Gehlot. Pilot’s statement also indicates a growing sense of disillusionment within the party, as he finds it difficult to comprehend why a chief minister would publicly criticize his own party members and applaud members of the opposition.

The episode highlights the complexities and power dynamics within political parties. Internal divisions and rivalries are not uncommon, but when they spill into the public domain, they can weaken the party’s unity and tarnish its image. The Congress party in Rajasthan has been grappling with internal divisions for some time, and these public criticisms from a prominent leader like Pilot only serve to exacerbate the existing tensions.

The future of the Congress party in Rajasthan remains uncertain. The clash between Gehlot and Pilot, two influential leaders within the state, has the potential to impact the party’s prospects in future elections. It will be crucial for the Congress high command to address these internal rifts and find a way to reconcile the differences between the two factions. Failure to do so could not only jeopardize the party’s position in Rajasthan but also weaken its overall standing in national politics.

The criticism leveled by Sachin Pilot at Ashok Gehlot for praising Vasundhara Raje and criticizing his own party members highlights the ongoing tensions and divisions within the Rajasthan Congress. The public airing of grievances and doubts about loyalty only serve to deepen the rifts within the party. It remains to be seen how the Congress high command will address these internal conflicts and ensure the party’s unity and stability in the long run.
