India witnessed a spike in Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, with 9,629 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours, marking an increase of around 3,000 cases compared to the previous day. The active caseload in the country stands at 61,013. The Union Health Ministry data from Tuesday revealed that India had logged 6,660 Covid infections in a day, with active cases decreasing to 63,380.
The death toll has now increased to 5,31,369, with 24 new deaths reported, which includes nine reconciled by Kerala, as per the updated date at 8 am. The daily positivity rate was recorded at 3.52 percent, while the weekly positivity rate was pegged at 5.42 percent. India’s Covid case tally stands at 4.49 crore.
The current active cases comprise only 0.14 percent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate stands at an impressive 98.67 percent, according to the Health Ministry. The number of people who have recovered from the disease surged to 4,43,11,078, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.18 percent.
The latest data from the ministry’s website shows that India has administered 220.66 crore doses of Covid vaccine so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.
On Monday, India registered 7,178 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, marking a minor dip in cases for the second day in a row. The active cases stood at 65,683, as per the latest data by the Union Health Ministry. The number of recoveries in the past 24 hours was 9,011, while eight deaths were reconciled. The total number of fatalities has now reached 3,31,345.
As per the ministry’s data, the daily positivity rate was 9.16 percent, and the weekly positivity rate was 5.41 percent. The Health Ministry said that a total of 92.54 crore tests have been conducted so far, among which 78,342 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.
