Security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir heightened their vigilance on May 17, with a focus on securing the Line of Control (LoC) and conducting raids at various locations associated with suspected individuals. This increased security activity comes in anticipation of the upcoming G20 meeting, scheduled to take place from May 22 to May 24 in Srinagar.

Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Indian Army’s Northern Command, visited the Pir Panjal valley to assess the readiness of the troops stationed along the LoC. The purpose of this visit was to ensure that the forces deployed in the region were adequately prepared to handle any potential security challenges.

The Line of Control serves as the de facto border between the Indian-administered territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the Pakistani-administered territory of Azad Kashmir. Given its strategic significance, securing this border is of utmost importance to prevent infiltration attempts by militants and maintain peace in the region.

To enhance security measures, security agencies carried out a thorough security assessment of the LoC. This assessment likely involved evaluating the existing infrastructure, checking the deployment of troops, and identifying areas that require further attention to prevent any untoward incidents. By conducting such assessments, the security forces can ensure that the LoC remains well-guarded and any potential threats are effectively addressed.

Furthermore, multiple locations linked to suspected individuals were raided by security agencies. These raids aimed to gather intelligence and apprehend any individuals who might pose a threat to the security of the G20 meeting or the region as a whole. It is a proactive measure to preempt any potential acts of violence or disturbance during the high-profile event.

The G20 meeting, consisting of leaders from major economies around the world, serves as a platform for discussing global economic cooperation and addressing pressing international issues. The selection of Srinagar as the venue for this meeting indicates the region’s growing importance and the desire to showcase its potential to the international community.

With the G20 meeting approaching, it is crucial to ensure the safety and security of the participants, as well as the local population. By intensifying security measures, conducting assessments, and carrying out targeted raids, the security agencies aim to create a secure environment that will facilitate the smooth and successful execution of the G20 meeting.

Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi’s visit to the Pir Panjal valley underscores the Indian Army’s commitment to maintaining a strong defense along the LoC. By personally assessing the preparedness of the troops, he can identify any gaps or areas of improvement and take appropriate measures to address them.

Overall, the increased vigilance by security agencies, including the security assessment of the LoC and raids on suspect locations, reflects the priority placed on ensuring the safety and security of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in light of the upcoming G20 meeting. These proactive measures aim to mitigate potential risks and create a conducive environment for the successful hosting of the international event.
