One year has passed since Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala was brutally killed. His legacy and the controversy surrounding his death persist. Moose Wala, at the peak of his musical career, was gunned down by six armed shooters near his home in Mansa district. His fans still mourn his death, while his parents refuse to accept that justice has been served.
On his first death anniversary, hundreds gathered at his ancestral village of Moosa to remember him. Despite the controversies surrounding his songs, which often touch on contentious issues, fans streamed into the village to pay their respects.
A remembrance event took place at the exact spot in Jawahar Ke Village where Moose Wala was fatally shot. His distraught parents, Balkaur Singh and Charan Kaur, continue to seek justice for their son. They question how the shooters freely roamed the area for several days without police intervention. They demand action against the individuals named in their complaint.
The grieving parents have not given up their pursuit for justice. They have sought support from politicians and organizations abroad, including the UK and Canada, to pressure for a fair investigation. They have protested outside the Punjab Assembly and raised the issue during the Jalandhar Lok Sabha by-polls.
Although the investigation is ongoing, the Punjab Police have identified Lawrence Bishnoi, a jailed gangster, as the mastermind behind the conspiracy. The parents, however, allege involvement of influential figures in the Punjabi music industry. The police maintain they require concrete evidence before pursuing that line of inquiry.
Charan and Balkaur remain steadfast in their claims that the arrests are a cover-up and the full extent of the conspiracy remains undisclosed. They demand answers from the police, emphasizing that their son was killed in the prime of his youth.
Adding weight to the allegations of singer involvement, a recent video surfaced showing Anmol Bishnoi, Lawrence’s younger brother and a suspect in Moose Wala’s killing, attending a live show by Punjabi singer Karan Aujla. Aujla has vehemently denied any involvement.
According to police officials, 25 out of the 31 accused have been arrested, two have been killed, and four are still at large. The main conspirators, Lawrence Bishnoi and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, are in different jails. The sharpshooters are held in Bathinda Jail, while two others were killed in a police encounter.
The police continue to search for gangster Goldy Brar, believed to be hiding in Canada. A Red Corner Notice (RCN) has been issued against him, and Canadian authorities have identified him as one of the country’s top 25 most wanted criminals. Anmol Bishnoi, Sachin Thapan Bishnoi, and Joginder Joga are also wanted in connection with the case.
Amidst the ongoing investigation, Sidhu Moose Wala’s music continues to make an impact. In addition to his pre-recorded songs, two posthumously released albums have gained millions of views.
