In Kerala, a 32-year-old fireman named Ranjith died while attempting to extinguish a massive fire at a state-run drug warehouse. Ranjith, a member of the Chakka unit of the state Fire and Rescue Services, was crushed by a collapsing portion of the building as he fought the flames. The fire broke out at the drug warehouse owned by the Kerala Medical Services Corporation Limited (KMSCL) and was completely destroyed by 1:30 am.
Upon receiving the alert, Ranjith and his fellow firefighters quickly rushed to the scene at Kinfra Industrial Park near Thumba. Unfortunately, a falling beam caused his fatal injuries. Despite immediate medical attention, Ranjith could not survive.
Multiple units of fire service personnel promptly arrived and successfully extinguished the blaze.
Condolences were expressed for Ranjith, with General Education Minister V Sivankutty sharing his sympathies in a heartfelt Facebook post. He referred to the fire in the building as “unfortunate” and assured a thorough government investigation.
Only a week earlier, another KMSCL warehouse in Kollam district had also been engulfed in flames, leading Health Minister Veena George to order an investigation into that incident.
Ranjith’s tragic death serves as a poignant reminder of the risks faced by emergency personnel, who courageously put their lives on the line to protect others. The community mourns this devastating loss while honoring Ranjith’s bravery and dedication.
