Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the 8th Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog in Delhi. The meeting focused on various topics such as healthcare, skill development, women empowerment, and infrastructure development, aiming to transform India into a developed nation by 2047. The council comprises chief ministers, lieutenant governors, and Union ministers, with PM Modi as the chairperson.

However, several chief ministers, including Mamata Banerjee, KCR, and Arvind Kejriwal, were absent from the meeting. Kejriwal cited his boycott in protest against the central government’s ordinance on control of services in Delhi. In a letter to PM Modi, he expressed concerns about the attack on democracy and the non-tolerance of non-BJP governments.

Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar, also chose not to attend, questioning the purpose of the meeting and the need for a new Parliament building.

The 8th Governing Council Meeting aimed to create a vision for India and promote cooperative federalism. The theme was “Viksit Bharat @ 2047: Role of Team India,” focusing on India’s potential for rapid growth over the next 25 years. The meeting provided an opportunity to establish a blueprint for a developed India by 2047 through collaboration between the central and state governments.
