On the morning of May 2nd, Tillu Tajpuriya, leader of Delhi’s Tillu gang, was stabbed to death by four members of the rival Gogi gang inside a high-security ward of Tihar prison. Tajpuriya, whose real name was Sunil Balyan, had been a prime accused in the infamous Rohini court shoot-out of September 2021, where two men gunned down Tajpuriya’s arch-rival Jitender Mann alias Gogi, the then-leader of the Gogi gang. The incident highlights the dangerous and violent world of organized crime in Delhi and the surrounding areas. Despite efforts by law enforcement officials to crack down on gang-related activity, criminal organizations continue to thrive and carry out acts of violence with impunity.Tajpuriya’s fate was perhaps sealed long before his untimely death. As he told his mama several years ago, “Mera muqaddar ab yahi hai; ab nahi nikal sakta isse” (This is my destiny now; I can’t get out of it). This fatalistic attitude is common among those who are deeply involved in criminal activity, and it often leads to a tragic end.Devendra Singh, a well-meaning individual who had tried to convince Tajpuriya to leave the path of crime, was unable to persuade him to do so. Tajpuriya was already deeply entrenched in the world of organized crime, and he saw no way out.The fact that Tajpuriya was murdered inside a high-security prison is a cause for concern. It raises questions about the effectiveness of security measures in prisons and the ability of criminal organizations to carry out violent acts even in the most secure of environments. The violent nature of the crime world is further illustrated by the use of a knife in Tajpuriya’s murder. Despite the prevalence of guns in gang-related crimes, knives are often used as they are easier to conceal and can be just as deadly. The death of Tajpuriya is a reminder of the toll that organized crime takes on individuals and society as a whole. It is a tragic outcome that could have been avoided if more efforts were made to prevent young people from joining gangs and to provide them with alternative pathways in life.In conclusion, the murder of Tillu Tajpuriya highlights the dangerous and violent world of organized crime in Delhi and the surrounding areas. It is a reminder of the toll that organized crime takes on individuals and society and the need for more effective measures to prevent young people from joining gangs and to provide them with alternative pathways in life. The incident also raises questions about the effectiveness of security measures in prisons and the ability of criminal organizations to carry out violent acts even in the most secure of environments.
