Indian citizen Albert Augustine, who lost his life during the Sudan conflict after being hit by a stray bullet, has been repatriated to Kerala. The mortal remains of Augustine arrived in India on Friday aboard a C-17 Airforce evacuation aircraft. The Embassy of India in Khartoum shared a video on Twitter showing the solemn transfer of the mortal remains onto the aircraft.
The repatriation was facilitated following a request made by Congress MP K Sudhakaran to the Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, urging swift action to bring Augustine’s body back to his grieving family. In the letter, Sudhakaran expressed the sorrow felt by Augustine’s constituents and emphasized the urgent need for repatriation.
Augustine, a resident of Alavelil, Kakkadavu, Nellippara, Alakode in Kannur, was working for the DAL group in Khartoum when the tragic incident occurred. His wife and children are anxiously awaiting the return of his mortal remains to their hometown in Kannur. The family is in a state of shock and devastation, and Sudhakaran appealed for the necessary assistance and support to be provided to them during this difficult time.
Congress MP K Sudhakaran expressed his deep concern and urgency in a letter, stating, “With a heavy heart, I am reaching out to you today regarding one of my constituents, Shri. Albert Augustine, a permanent resident of Alavelil, Kakkadavu, Nellippara, Alakode in Kannur.”
