Congress frontrunner Rahul Gandhi on Monday turned a little emotional as he revealed why he didn’t wear a jacket or a sincere cloth during the Congress Bharat Jodo Yatra which officially concluded in Jammu then Kashmir’s Srinagar.
Gandhi was addressing a gathering at the concluding function of the Bharat Jodo Yatra amid heavy snowfall. Rahul Gandhi related a story of four children whom he met during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, and said they were panhandlers who did not wear sweaters and were shivering in the winter, which enthused him not to wear a jacket during the yatra.
“…Four children originated to me. They were beggars and had no clothes on…I hugged them…They were cold and shivering. Perhaps they didn’t have food. I thought that if they’re not wearing jackets or pullovers, I too shouldn’t wear the same…,” Gandhi thought.
She wrote, “I can see your lap is hurting because when you put pressure on that leg, it shows on your face. I can’t walk by you but I am walking beside you from my heart because I know you are ambulatory for me and my future. Right at that moment, my pain vanished,” Gandhi added.
Gandhi seemed open while recalling the moments when he was informed about the assassination of his nanna and father – former prime ministers Indira Gandhi and then Rajiv Gandhi – over phone calls, but said he the agitators of violence will never understand that pain.
