Police Constable Shot in Encounter With Car-Jackers.

A Punjab police constable , Kuldip Singh was shot dead in a firing between the police and some masked robbers near Kot Grewal village on Sunday. Kuldip was posted as a gunman with the Phagwara Police Station SHO . He was critically injured after this incident after which he was brought to the Gandhi hospital in Phagwara where the doctors declared him brought dead.

Depth of the incident .

The police were chasing the robbers who were escaping after snatching a Creta Car (PB -36 j -6240 ) from Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar towards Phagwara on the Dosanjh road. The car belonged to Avtar Singh . He was in the car with his friend when some five armed robbers came and took his car and tried to escape towards Dosanjh Kalan.

SHO Nahar along with his force, chased the robbers . That’s when started an open firing . Constable Kuldeep, then and there got shot in that open firing and sustained injuries . he got shot at his thigh . Police stated that on counterfiring on the robbers, three were shot in the leg.

After that he was rushed to the doctors and was declared brought dead . Afterwards Kuldip’s body was taken for autopsy. The injured robbers were identified as Kulwinder Singh Alias Kinda ,Vishnu and Ranjit Singh. They were admitted in hospital in Phillaur , but were shifted to Jalandhar civil hospital later,” said by the sources.

However, the police succeeded in catching the robbers. On hearing the news of the encounter, Kapurthala SSP Navneet Bains rushed to the Phagwara and also visited the hospital.

CM Bhagwat Mann stated ” Salute to martyr constable Kuldeep Singh Bajwa Beli no. 866/KPT who has made the sacrifice in line of duty. Punjab government will make Ex gratia grant of Rupees 1 crores. Another 1 crore insurance payment will be made by HDFC Bank . We stand with our martyrs and their families.”
