This solemn occasion is observed on the Friday before Easter Sunday and commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, whom Christians believe is the Son of God and his death at Calvary.
The day of Good Friday is marked by various ceremonies and rituals across the country. In Pune, at the St Patrick Church, priests wash the feet of disciples on Maundy Thursday. In Mirzapur, Ahmedabad, a re-enactment of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ takes place during the Good Friday procession at Mt Carmel Cathedral. In Vadodara, devotees take part in the re-enactment of Jesus Christ’s Way of the Cross to mark the occasion.
The Mumbai Christian community organized a holy rally, along with a street play and drama, at Kalina in Mumbai on Friday. Meanwhile, in Lucknow, Christians offer prayers at the Cathedral Church. At the Don Bosco Church in Yerawada, Pune, there is a re-enactment of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. A special mass is also organized at St Paul’s Church in Pune to commemorate the occasion.
In New Delhi, devotees offer their prayers at the Sacred Heart Cathedral Church. In Kolkata, devotees light candles to commemorate the occasion of Good Friday.
Good Friday reminds us of the selfless sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who died for the sins of humanity. It is a day of reflection and introspection, and an opportunity to renew our faith and commitment to the principles of love, compassion, and forgiveness.
