The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore has once again secured the top spot in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF 2023) rankings, making it the sixth consecutive year for the institution.
National Law University, Delhi remains in second place, while NALSAR, Hyderabad maintains its third position. This year’s rankings closely resemble the 2021 results.
However, there have been changes in the rankings compared to the previous year. Symbiosis Law School (SLS), Pune, which held the third position in 2022, has now slipped to sixth place. The fourth and fifth positions are now occupied by West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS), Kolkata, and Jamia Millia Islamia, respectively.
Among the other top-ranked law schools, Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), Gandhinagar, secured the seventh spot, while Siksha O Anusandhan moved up to eighth place. IIT Kharagpur dropped to ninth place, and Babsaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Lucknow debuted in the top 10, ranking at number 10.
In the top 30 law schools, notable mentions include National Law Institute University (NLIU) Bhopal at 18th, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Patiala at 20th, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University (RMLNLU) Lucknow at 21st, National University of Study & Research in Law (NUSRL) Ranchi at 24th, National Law University and Judicial Academy (NLUJA) Kamrup at 28th, and National Law University, Cuttack at 30th.
The NIRF rankings considered 100 law schools this year, using the same evaluation parameters as previous years, which include Teaching, Learning & Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RPC), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI), and Perception.
