India’s first undersea twin tunnels in south Mumbai to open in November as part of the Rs 12,721-crore Mumbai Coastal Road Project. The 2.07-km tunnels, which started near Girgaon, will reduce the commute from Girgaon to Worli during peak hours from 45 minutes to just 10 minutes. More than 35 men and a giant Chinese Tunnel Boring Machine were involved in cutting through complex geological strata for over two years to complete the tunnels.
