The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has closed the entry and exit gates at two metro stations, Central Secretariat and Udyog Bhawan, as a security measure during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inauguration ceremony for the new Parliament House. Passengers can still interchange easily at Central Secretariat.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, dressed in traditional attire, walked into the Parliament premises through Gate No. 1. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla warmly welcomed him. Accompanied by Vedic chants from priests of Karnataka’s Shringeri Math, the Prime Minister performed a “Ganapati Homam” to invoke blessings for the new Parliament building’s inauguration.

Modi sought blessings from high priests of various adheenams in Tamil Nadu, holding the holy scepter. He then carried the “Sengol” in a procession with the melodious tunes of the “nadaswaram” and Vedic mantras to the new Parliament building. He placed the “Sengol” in a special enclosure on the right side of the Speaker’s chair in the Lok Sabha chamber.

A multi-faith prayer meeting commenced with representatives from different religious factions. Prime Minister Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union ministers, and Chief Ministers from various states attended.

The first phase of the new Parliament building inauguration has concluded, and the second phase will begin at 12 noon.
