On Monday, 17 people were killed and 22 injured in a road traffic accident involving two vehicles in China. The accident happened at around 3 pm in Haikou City, located in Hainan Province in the south of the country.

Witnesses reported that a minibus had been travelling from Haikou to Heilongjiang when it collided with a pickup truck carrying a family of four. The minibus then careened off the road and into a ditch, killing all 17 passengers inside.

The 22 injured survivors were taken to a local hospital where they are receiving medical treatment. At this time, the cause of the accident is unknown, but authorities are investigating.

Local media reports that the driver of the minibus was a young man of 24 years old, and the driver and three passengers in the pickup truck were all members of the same family. All drivers involved in the accident have been tested for alcohol, but no results have been announced yet.

This tragic incident has sparked an outpouring of grief from people across China, with many expressing their shock and sorrow on social media. Some have even called for stricter regulations and improved road safety measures in order to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.

At this time, authorities are in the process of identifying those killed and injured in the accident. They have also set up a special fund to assist families of those affected by the tragedy.

The incident highlights the need for greater awareness of road safety in China. Despite the country’s strong economic development, the number of people killed due to road traffic accidents is still alarmingly high.

It is hoped that the government will take further steps to address this issue, including enforcing stricter driving regulations and providing more resources to ensure better road infrastructure. Only then can these tragedies be prevented from happening again.
