After a long wait of three seasons, the La Liga title has slipped away from Camp Nou as Barcelona fell short in their bid to become champions of Spain. Despite securing the crown, Barcelona’s final game of the season ended in disappointment. Xavi’s boys faced a challenging fixture against relegation-threatened Celta Vigo away from home at the Estadio Municipal de Balaidos in Vigo on June 5.

In a surprising turn of events, Celta Vigo emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over Barcelona. The defeat marked Barcelona’s sixth consecutive winless game. Celta Vigo, currently struggling in 17th place on the league table, had much at stake in their last La Liga assignment. They entered the match just one point ahead of 18th-placed Valladolid, desperately needing a victory to secure their place in the Spanish top flight next season.

Barcelona, on the other hand, fielded a lineup consisting of several bench players as Xavi sought to explore different combinations before shifting his focus to the upcoming summer transfer window. The defeat served as a reminder of the areas where Barcelona would need to strengthen in order to regain their dominance in the league.

Despite the disappointing end to the season for Barcelona, the club can take solace in their earlier achievements, reclaiming the La Liga title after a prolonged wait. Meanwhile, Celta Vigo celebrated their hard-fought victory, securing their place in the top division for the next season. The match served as a reminder of the unpredictability and competitiveness of La Liga, where every team, regardless of their position in the table, can pose a significant challenge.
