Raman Research Institute (RRI) in Bengaluru has partnered with the Navy’s Weapons and Electronics Systems Engineering Establishment (WESEE) after demonstrating a breakthrough in Indian quantum communication.
The agreement was signed for five years in Bengaluru, with RRI director Tarun Souradeep and Vice-Admiral Sandeep Naithani signing the MoU in New Delhi. The partnership aims to identify maritime use cases for the Navy using cutting-edge research in quantum information and computing.
The RRI laboratory had previously demonstrated the transmission of quantum keys between stationary points, with the idea of securing transmissions using quantum “keys” instead of traditional keys protected by mathematical complexity, which can be broken by advances in quantum computing.
The partnership is expected to foster further advancements in science and technology in strategic areas of national importance.
The partnership between Raman Research Institute and the Navy’s Weapons and Electronics Systems Engineering Establishment to advance quantum communication and identify maritime use cases is a significant development in the field of science and technology. It has the potential to enhance national security and defense capabilities through cutting-edge research and innovation.
