Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) is set to make a comeback, with an official launch date announced. Developed by Krafton, the popular battle royale game will be available for Android users to play starting May 27. iOS users will have to wait a bit longer, as BGMI will be playable for them from May 29. Krafton has decided to stagger the availability of the game to ensure a smooth gaming experience amidst the expected high number of downloads.
Krafton India CEO, Sean Hyunil Sohn, expressed excitement about BGMI’s return and assured users of a seamless gameplay experience. BGMI is a modified version of PUBG Mobile, tailored specifically for the Indian audience. It was removed from app stores last year due to security concerns. The current re-release follows negotiations between Krafton and Indian authorities.
Minister of State (IT), Rajeev Chandrasekhar, announced on Twitter that BGMI has received a “three-month trial approval.” The government will closely monitor issues such as user harm and addiction before making a final decision. To meet the government’s conditions, Krafton must implement a daily time limit for the game over 90 days to prevent addiction, particularly among children. Authorities have also requested modifications to the game’s animations to remove depictions of blood.
It remains uncertain whether BGMI will be accessible only during specified time slots each day. The game’s reinstatement is a result of efforts to address concerns raised by the government and ensure a safer and more enjoyable gaming experience for Indian players.
