AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, signed by the Centre seizing back the control over bureaucracy by introducing an ordinance, is set to meet West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday in a bid to drum up support against the BJP.
Even as AAP plans to hit the streets this week in protest against the Centre’s move, Kejriwal said he would visit every state and meet Opposition leaders. “I will meet WB CM Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata. I will go to every state and will meet every leader to ask for their support to defeat this bill,” the Delhi CM said.
This week, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is set to stage protests against the central government’s ordinance on the inauguration of the new Parliament building. The government’s decision to introduce an ordinance has been met with opposition from AAP, which views it as an infringement on democratic processes.
The new Parliament building, a state-of-the-art structure, is scheduled to be inaugurated this week, coinciding with the completion of nine years of the NDA government’s tenure. However, AAP sees the timing of the inauguration and the introduction of the ordinance as a deliberate attempt to divert attention from pressing issues and consolidate power.
AAP’s leader, Arvind Kejriwal, has been vocal in expressing his discontent with the central government’s actions. He plans to meet with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday to seek her support in opposing the BJP and its policies.
Kejriwal has also announced his intention to travel across states and meet with opposition leaders to garner their support in defeating the ordinance. The AAP leader aims to unite opposition parties ahead of the upcoming general elections in 2024.
This development comes in the wake of a show of strength by opposition parties at the recent swearing-in ceremony of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The Congress party, buoyed by its victory in Karnataka, is now focusing its attention on other states that are heading for elections, including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, and Mizoram.
The protests by AAP and the efforts to forge opposition unity signal a growing political activity as the country approaches the next Lok Sabha elections. Opposition parties are seeking to capitalize on popular discontent and mobilize support against the ruling party.
Meanwhile, the new Parliament building, which has been built at an estimated cost of Rs 1,200 crore as part of the Central Vista Project, is ready for inauguration. The building boasts modern facilities, including a grand Constitution Hall, committee rooms, dining areas, and ample parking space. It will accommodate 888 members in the Lok Sabha chamber and 300 in the Rajya Sabha chamber.
As the week unfolds, the country will witness both the political protests by AAP and the inauguration of the new Parliament building. The events serve as a reminder of the ongoing political dynamics and the efforts to shape the course of the nation’s governance.
