Olympic bronze medallist Bajrang Punia has accepted the challenge put forth by Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), to undergo a narco-analysis test. The purpose of the test is to determine the truthfulness of sexual harassment allegations made by wrestlers against Singh.
In a Facebook post, Singh expressed his willingness to take a narco-analysis or polygraph test to prove his innocence. He stated that he was ready for the test but with the condition that Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, the wrestlers who had accused him, should also undergo the same tests. Singh proposed that if all three individuals agreed to the tests, a press conference should be called to announce it. He promised that he was prepared for the test.
In response, Bajrang Punia accepted the challenge but requested that Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh also undergo the narco-analysis test under the supervision of the Supreme Court and with the live streaming of the proceedings on national television. Bajrang emphasized the importance of transparency by stating that they would like to know the questions being asked during the test. While Singh specifically requested the narco test for Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, Bajrang suggested that all the girls who had filed complaints should also undergo the narco-analysis test.
During the protest at Jantar Mantar, Bajrang Punia, accompanied by Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat, expressed their demand for a comprehensive investigation. They emphasized that it was not just about the two wrestlers accused, but about all the women who had come forward with allegations of sexual harassment. Bajrang Punia’s statement indicated a desire for a fair process that would provide clarity and accountability for everyone involved.
The allegations of sexual harassment within the WFI have caused significant controversy and raised concerns about the safety and well-being of athletes. The willingness of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, Bajrang Punia, and the other wrestlers to undergo narco-analysis tests reflects the seriousness of the situation and the need for a thorough investigation. The call for the Supreme Court’s supervision and live streaming of the tests aims to ensure transparency and prevent any potential manipulation or bias in the process.
As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the authorities will respond to the demands made by Bajrang Punia and the wrestlers involved. The outcome of the narco-analysis tests, if conducted, could play a crucial role in establishing the truth and addressing the allegations of sexual harassment within the WFI.
