The Manipur government has prolonged the suspension of mobile data and broadband services in the state for an additional five days to curb the spread of rumors and hate speeches following incidents like house arsons. The decision aims to prevent the transmission of inflammatory material and false rumors through social media platforms and messaging services, which may lead to disruptions in law and order and communal harmony. The suspension order will remain in effect until 3:00 pm on May 26, 2023.

The state of Manipur has recently witnessed ethnic clashes that resulted in numerous casualties, injuries, and displacements. Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, while emphasizing the challenges of maintaining law and order, urged peace and requested the public not to blame communities but to hold the government accountable.

CM Singh stressed the need to restore love and unity among communities, considering them as family members. He assured that the government would take necessary measures to rectify the situation. However, the opposition Congress party criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led governments at both the state and union levels for the unrest.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh took to Twitter to express concern over the internet ban and the halt in essential services, questioning the lack of response from the Prime Minister and other ministers.

The situation in Manipur is being closely monitored, with security measures in place to ensure the safety of civilians traveling on National Highway 37. The security cover includes patrols by the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Quick Reaction Teams, aerial surveillance, and the presence of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and Manipur Police commandos.

Efforts are being made to restore peace and normalcy in the strife-torn state, emphasizing the importance of unity and understanding among the communities.
