In preparation for the G20 meeting in Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army and other security agencies have reviewed and bolstered security along the strategic Jammu-Srinagar national highway. The meeting of the G20 Tourism Working Group is scheduled to take place from May 22 to 24 in Srinagar, the summer capital. A high-level meeting, chaired by a brigadier-level officer, was conducted with senior police and CRPF officers in Ramban to assess and refine the security arrangements along the highway, which serves as the only all-weather road connecting Kashmir to the rest of the country.
The Indian Army’s Jammu-based White Knight Corps, in a tweet, mentioned a tabletop exercise that was carried out to enhance the coordinated response of the security agencies in a simulated security scenario in Ramban.
Amid intelligence inputs about potential terrorist threats before or during the G20 meeting, security has been strengthened across Jammu and Kashmir. The anti-infiltration grid along the borders has been reinforced, and the security of vital installations, including railway stations and bus stands, has been heightened. Additional checkpoints have been established along highways, as well as in important cities and towns, to prevent any terrorist activities.
A multi-tier security approach involving the Army, Border Security Force, police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Village Defence Committees has been activated along the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC).
Furthermore, security measures have been intensified at Jammu railway station, with all agencies instructed to collaborate closely and remain vigilant to prevent any attempts by anti-national elements to disrupt the proceedings.
Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force officers have been directed to increase patrolling in the railway platform areas and other sensitive sections of Jammu railway station. These efforts aim to ensure a secure and safe environment during the G20 summit and prevent any untoward incidents.
