On Tuesday, the paramilitary Rangers arrested Pakistan’s former cricketer-turned-politician on the orders of the country’s anti-graft agency NAB. The 70-year-old politician was taken into custody from his residence in the city of Lahore.

The former cricketer is a prominent political figure in Pakistan and has served as the country’s Prime Minister. He was also the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) political party. However, he has faced multiple corruption charges throughout his political career.

The arrest was made after the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) obtained an arrest warrant against the former cricketer in a money laundering case. According to NAB, the politician had used offshore companies to launder money and had accumulated assets beyond his known sources of income.

The politician has denied all allegations of corruption and has called the charges politically motivated. He has also criticized the NAB’s tactics and accused them of using their powers to target opposition leaders.

The arrest of the former cricketer has led to mixed reactions in Pakistan. While his supporters have expressed their anger and called it a political vendetta, others have welcomed the move and called it a step towards ending corruption in the country.

This is not the first time that the former cricketer has been arrested on corruption charges. He was previously arrested in 2019 on similar charges but was released on bail. He has also been disqualified from holding public office by the country’s Supreme Court.

The arrest of the former cricketer has once again highlighted the issue of corruption in Pakistan’s political system. It has also raised questions about the effectiveness of the country’s anti-graft agencies and their ability to bring corrupt politicians to justice.

The arrest of the former cricketer-turned-politician on corruption charges has once again brought the issue of corruption to the forefront of Pakistan’s political discourse. While some see it as a step towards ending corruption, others view it as a politically motivated move. Only time will tell what the outcome of this arrest will be and whether it will have a lasting impact on Pakistan’s political landscape.
