Russian President Putin accuses West of unleashing “real war” against Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin, during the annual Victory Day parade in Moscow’s Red Square, made a strong statement against the West’s “untamed ambitions” and declared that a “real war” has been unleashed against Russia. Putin’s comments came just hours after Russian forces launched cruise missiles on Ukrainian targets. The move has escalated tensions between the two countries, which have been at odds since Russia annexed Crimea in 2014.

Speaking to the crowd of soldiers and veterans gathered for the parade, Putin said that “the West is continuing its policy of containment and pressure” against Russia, and accused Western powers of “unleashing a real war against us.” He went on to say that Russia would not tolerate such actions and would defend its interests with “all means necessary.”

The missile strikes on Ukraine have drawn condemnation from the international community, with several countries calling for an immediate ceasefire and a return to diplomatic negotiations. The United States, in particular, has been critical of Russia’s actions, with President Joe Biden warning that the US will respond “in a robust and meaningful way” if Russia continues to escalate the conflict.

The situation in Ukraine has been volatile for several years, with pro-Russian separatists fighting Ukrainian forces in the eastern part of the country. The conflict has claimed thousands of lives and has led to economic sanctions against Russia by the West.

The recent missile strikes have only added to the tension, and there are fears that the situation could escalate further. The international community has called for a de-escalation of the conflict and for both sides to return to the negotiating table.

Putin’s remarks at the Victory Day parade have been seen as a signal to the West that Russia will not back down in the face of pressure and sanctions. The situation in Ukraine is likely to remain a key issue in international politics for the foreseeable future, with the potential for further conflict and tension.
