A man’s video detailing his experience of being wrongfully accused of drunk driving by the Chennai police using a faulty breathalyzer has gone viral on social media. The man, who identifies himself as Deepak, claims that despite being a teetotaller and never having consumed alcohol in his life, the breathalyzer machine registered 45% alcohol in his system when he was stopped for a DUI test while returning home on March 27th.

Deepak further narrated that he requested the police to take him to Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital for a blood test to prove his innocence, but the officials did not believe him. After much argument and harassment from the police, a new breathalyzer machine was brought, and it recorded 0% alcohol in his system. The officers then allowed him to leave without filing any charges.

Deepak’s video has sparked outrage on social media, with many people criticizing the police for their wrongful accusations and lack of sensitivity towards citizens. The Chennai police, however, have defended their actions, claiming that the breathalyzer machine was not faulty and had provided correct readings in other cases. The police have booked over 9,878 people for drunken driving in the city from 2023 till March 27.

The incident highlights the need for better training and sensitivity among law enforcement officials, especially in cases where citizens are wrongfully accused. It is also a reminder for citizens to stand their ground and not succumb to pressure from the police if they are on the right side of the law.
