Staying together as husband-wife, for a specific period without getting married is considered taboo in India. Generally, people feel before jumping into marriage they should know their partners well. Live-in relationships may enable the couple to know each other better, but it has their disadvantages as well.

Premarital sex is considered to be highly immoral when two people live under the same roof. But these beliefs are gradually dissolving. Freedom, education, and other factors are responsible for this change in mindset.

There are still some of the reasons why in India live-in relationships are considered highly immoral, judgments passed for the same, and a glimpse of love and arranged marriages. The progressive steps taken by the judiciary are welcoming in nature to society.

Proper legislation can bring a change to society as live-in relationships continue to be taboo for many people in India, especially in rural areas where this concept has not even been introduced yet. Proper legislation and amendments are necessary for the protection of the rights of the individual and the interest of marriage.
