Devalaya Art, an acclaimed studio based in Gujarat, is garnering attention for its exceptional contributions to temple architecture and traditional stone carving, rooted deeply in India’s ancient art form, Shilp Sastra. Led by renowned designer and artist Dhiren Salat (Sompura), Devalaya Art has made a significant impact on both the national and international fronts by creating temples that embody traditional Nagar saili (style) while seamlessly meeting modern-day architectural standards.

With over 15 years of experience in crafting architectural masterpieces, Devalaya Art specializes in the design and construction of temples and ghar mandirs (home temples) crafted from marble and various regional stones. Each project is infused with cultural integrity, with designs drawn meticulously in full-sized drawings that enable precision in both carving and installation. This approach ensures that every detail, from the broad contours of a shikhar (temple spire) to the fine lines in a deity’s expression, is captured with stunning clarity.

The legacy of Shilp Sastra — the ancient Indian treatise on sculpture and architecture — shines through in each of Devalaya Art’s projects. “We approach each temple with reverence to our art, aiming to create spaces that offer both spiritual and aesthetic fulfillment,” Dhiren Salat shared in a recent interview. Known for large-scale installations like the 108-foot Buddha statue in Bihar and the Kotyark Ji Temple in Gujarat, Devalaya Art also handles intricate projects that bring traditional elements into contemporary spaces. Their ghar mandirs are a testament to their versatility, blending traditional artistry with functional design suitable for modern homes.

One of Devalaya Art’s distinguishing features is its mastery of Nagar saili, a classic temple style known for its detailed spires, carvings, and symmetry. Each project includes full-sized drawings and detailed stonework plans that guide the carving and installation process with precision, ensuring that every carved stone element fits perfectly upon assembly.

In addition to their expertise in temple architecture, Devalaya Art also offers carved stone installations like fountains, entry gates, jalis (stone latticework), and murals. Crafted from high-quality materials, including Ambaji and Makrana marble, pink and yellow stones, each piece reflects the elegance of traditional Indian stonework.

As demand grows for their services, Devalaya Art remains dedicated to reviving India’s rich architectural heritage, one temple at a time. Under Dhiren Salat’s leadership, they are not only preserving ancient techniques but also evolving them to fit the needs of modern architecture and aesthetics.
