On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually flag off the first Vande Bharat Express connecting the North East region. The train’s journey will commence from Guwahati railway station at 12 noon. The Vande Bharat Express, a state-of-the-art train, will significantly reduce travel time between Guwahati and New Jalpaiguri compared to existing options.

Currently, the fastest train takes 6 hours 30 minutes for the journey, but the Vande Bharat Express will cover it in just 5 hours 30 minutes. This time-saving feature will provide passengers with increased convenience and comfort, while also boosting tourism in the region.

Alongside the flagging off of the Vande Bharat Express, Prime Minister Modi will dedicate a newly electrified section spanning 182 km. This development will promote pollution-free transportation, allowing trains to run at higher speeds and reducing overall travel time. It will also facilitate the entry of trains running on electric traction into Meghalaya.

Furthermore, a newly constructed DEMU/MEMU shed at Lumding in Assam will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi. This facility will play a crucial role in maintaining DEMU rakes operating in the region, leading to improved operational feasibility and efficiency.

These initiatives highlight the government’s commitment to developing and modernizing transportation infrastructure in the North East region. They aim to enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and provide better travel experiences for passengers. The advancements in the railway sector will not only benefit local residents but also contribute to the overall economic growth and development of the region.

The introduction of the Vande Bharat Express and the electrified section showcases India’s progress in the railway sector, aligning with the government’s vision of a modern and efficient transportation network. These initiatives reflect the nation’s commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly modes of transport, while leveraging technology and innovation to improve travel experiences for its citizens.
